This week on the Podcast JP, Dan and LEE discuss all the latest news in the world of Combat Sports.Daniel Lima had his seven-fight winning streak snapped Sunday in Japan, and the loss came 24 hours after a scary scene at the Pancrase 290 weigh-ins.Lima could barely stand on his own in Tokyo, Japan, to weigh in for his strawweight bout with Daichi Kitakata. Lima missed weight by two pounds. The scene wasn’t enough for his coaches or promoters to pull the plug on the fight, so Lima went on to compete and lose a decision Sunday. The Brazilian fighter spoke with MMA Fighting a few hours before the bout, explaining that he cut 16 pounds in two days.“Since it was my first time outside of Brazil and I had no experience, I thought it would be easy,” Lima said. “It was tough, painful.”For the past few years, as his wins piled up and his reign atop the UFC flyweight division crossed into legendary territory, Demetrious Johnson has always kept one primary goal: Break Anderson Silva’s all-time record for consecutive UFC title defenses. At long last, Johnson did exactly that at UFC 216. His masterful fifth-round submission of Ray Borg put Johnson at 11 consecutive defenses of the UFC flyweight belt, surpassing the mark set by Silva in 2012 and making Johnson stand alone as the winningest champion in Octagon history. So what now? Johnson is only 31 years old and his options appear to be wide open. He could potentially return to bantamweight to challenge the winner of Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw, or he could stay right where he is at 125 pounds and propel his all-time record into even more unprecedented heights.
