It was a bit of a surprise to everybody when we learned that Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was going to be full of superheroes beyond the two guys whose names were in the title. It looks like the practice of filling DC comics movies with heroes may be becoming standard practice, however. Some information has been revealed that implies that Wonder Woman’s solo film will also include at least one other superhero, but this is one we haven’t met yet.
The quote that reveals this news comes from Saïd Taghmaoui. He recently announced he was part of the film by posting some images from the set (which he quickly deleted). In a recent interview, he was asked who he would be playing in the film and he said this:
I’ll be playing a superhero, but details are still under wraps, so I can’t tell you much.
First and foremost, it needs to be said that the interview was with French magazine Ultra (via ComicBookMovie). This means that the line has been translated, and thus it may not read in English quite the way it was meant in French. He might have just said he was a playing a hero, meaning he was playing a good guy as opposed to a villain.
Still, there’s a bit of additional evidence to back up the quote as written. Taghmaoui says he beat out hundreds of other potential candidates for the role, and that he will have to undergo extensive physical training for the part. While this still isn’t a guarantee that his part is that of a superhero, the description certainly sounds like the sort of thing that we hear about whenever one of those roles has been cast. In addition, Taghmaoui says that his filming for Wonder Woman will take six months in four different countries, so we do know that whatever the role is, this isn’t a simple cameo.
Wonder Woman will star Gal Gadot as the Amazon princess with Chris Pine in the role of Steve Trevor. While we don’t know a lot about the movie’s story, it appears that it may actually take place prior to the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, even though the film will release the year after that one. The time period is also up in the air, as it looks like the movie may span the centuries taking place in multiple eras. Since Taghmaoui obviously isn’t an Amazon, it’s difficult, though not impossible, to imagine how he could have a part that lasts through all the time periods the film will cover if he isn’t a superhero.
So if he is playing a superhero, what’s your guess as to which one? He could be aWonder Woman specific character, or possibly this could be a new addition to the greater cinematic universe. Let us know your thoughts below.
