It will always be the times when I see amazing, up-and-coming bands come through the club circuit, paying their dues, that will rest in my mind as the best shows I’ve been to. When Against The Grain came through my sleepy town, they smashed our faces, said thanks, and moved on to their next victims. The nicest of guys, this Detroit speedrock powerhouse start smashing and continues smashing until you beg for mercy. Not since the likes of Steve Harris or Cliff Burton have I seen bass guitar played so well with the finger style. Yup, those are some heavy hitters I am comparing this band to, but it fits. As with many speedrock acts, poster art is usually full of high-energy imagery, and Against The Grain do this as well as any of them. Here’s a bit more info about this amazing band that you’ll probably get the chance to see, as they love the road and make their way across North America on a regular basis. – FATS
