SongoftheDay: POSSESSED TO SKATE by SUICIDAL TENDENCIES
“Punk rockers said we weren’t punk and metal people said we weren’t metal” – Mike Muir
Suicidal Tendencies pretty much did things their own way and created their own special style of schizo crossover. Their 1987 release JOIN THE ARMY covers a lot of territory, and Pittsburgh Pirates hat wearing guitarist Rocky George wasn’t afraid to offend snobby punks with his rippin’ guitar solos. Thanks to their pariah attitude and extensive coverage by Thrasher Magazine, skate kids were the first to pick up on how wicked this band is. Sure, Possessed To Skate isn’t a shining example of crossover/thrash, but it has one of the best opening riffs I can think of, and it’s unmistakably Psycho!
The coolest part of this video is that Mike Muir some how managed to borrow Bob Barkers microphone for the shoot. Amazing! – BLAKE
(Blake Jacobs has been quaking bowels with his riffage for some 25 years now. Currently, he can be found bashing skulls with his crossover juggernaut World War 4, as well as the occasional alien landing of Manpower. For most, he can be found greeting patrons with his wizard smile at the amazing arcade-bar House of TARG in Ottawa, Canada.)
