NEWS: David Bowie, Joe Perry, Steven Tyler and More Writing Songs for ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Broadway Show

Well, if I hadn’t smoked enough cheeb for one week, here’a another reason to get the Titan II out of its case.  Apparently David Bowie, the toxic twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, and members of Flaming Lips are currently working on writing music for an upcoming live-action Broadway production of Spongebob_PNGSpongeBob SquarePants.  Also wacky, it seems David Bowie is not new to the SpngeBob world, as he did the voice work for Lord Royal Highness of Atlantis for the 2007 TV-Movie.  Yes, another reason to light up Bobby for another hashtastic voyage.

Director, Tina Landau, says fans of the television show will be well-fed with familiar story lines, but can expect some new and interesting twists.

“We’re taking our leads from the TV show but this is an original story, with an original design approach, and original songs written just for the occasion by an amazing array of songwriters,” explained Landau. “We will present the world of Bikini Bottom and its characters in a whole new way that can only be achieved in the live medium of the theatre. We’re bringing the show’s fabled characters to life through actors — not prosthetics or costumes that hide them — and we’re deploying some unconventional stage craft that will prove that anything can happen in Bikini Bottom.”

Performances are scheduled for Chicago for sometime in June 2016, with the masterpiece moving to New York to play into the early bit of 2017.  Light up! – FATS
