NEWS: Pro wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper dead at 61

(With massive sadness, the internet is breaking with the news of the death of one of our favorite entertainers growing up.  Not that the kilt had anything to do with it, but the insane look in this guy’s eye when he spoke made “Rowdy” Roddy Piper easily my favorite wrestler in the then WWF.  They keep dropping… sucks. – FATS)


Legendary wrestling champion “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61, World Wrestling Entertainment has confirmed.

The WWE Hall of Famer passed away in his Hollywood, Calif. home of natural causes, TMZ reported.

piper1n-5-webPiper had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006 but last fall said that he was cancer free.

“WWE is deeply saddened that Roderick Toombs, aka “Rowdy” Roddy Piper –
WWE Hall of Famer and Intercontinental Champion – passed away today at the age of 61,” WWE said in a statement. “WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Toombs’ family, friends and fans.”

Piper, whose signature move was the “sleeper hold,” was named Intercontinental Champion, World Tag Team Champion, World Championship Wrestling U.S. Champion and was one of six WWE Hall of Fame Inductees in 2005 during his powerful career which included Hollywood acting.

His most successful film was the 1988 Sci-Fi film, “They Live,” directed by John Carpenter.
