Legendary wrestling champion “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61, World Wrestling Entertainment has confirmed.
The WWE Hall of Famer passed away in his Hollywood, Calif. home of natural causes, TMZ reported.
“WWE is deeply saddened that Roderick Toombs, aka “Rowdy” Roddy Piper –
WWE Hall of Famer and Intercontinental Champion – passed away today at the age of 61,” WWE said in a statement. “WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Toombs’ family, friends and fans.”
Piper, whose signature move was the “sleeper hold,” was named Intercontinental Champion, World Tag Team Champion, World Championship Wrestling U.S. Champion and was one of six WWE Hall of Fame Inductees in 2005 during his powerful career which included Hollywood acting.
His most successful film was the 1988 Sci-Fi film, “They Live,” directed by John Carpenter.
