SongoftheDay: ELECTRODE by MYSTICK KREWE OF CLEARLIGHT

hqdefaultSlippery, swampy Deep Purple-ish metal (hard rock, really) from New Orleans. An offshoot of Eyehategod (Jimmy Bower on guitar, and the late Joey LaCaze on drums), and you can still hear it in the riffs, but the vibe is much more relaxed. If you like this song, you’ll dig the rest of their lone LP from 2000. Mystick Krewe of Clearlight did record a couple of tracks with Wino on vocals for a split album with Acid King on Man’s Ruin, and those tracks rule. Shame they never did more, and I guess they probably won’t now, with LaCaze gone. Makes me all the more glad I caught them live on a Clutch/C.O.C. gig early many moons ago…

(This week’s SongoftheDay segments are being guest-curated by Paul Slater.  Paul plays guitar in Monobrow, one the best up-and-coming instrumental stoner rock outfits to hit the scene in a long while.  Check out the music of Monobrow here.)
