SongoftheDay: AS WE USED TO SING by BUSHMAN’S REVENGE

9053I wanted to feature another song by Bushman’s Revenge (“Jeg Baker Bokosboller”), as it is vividly linked in my mind to driving around in the California desert a few years ago, but alas, I couldn’t find it on YouTube to feature here. However, this song (a Sonnny Sharrock cover) is no slouch. Fats and I saw this Norwegian trio last year at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, and they put on a flawless show. Astutely describing themselves as “Rock & Actionjazz”, they’ve released six albums, including one live one, and another of covers. Their latest, Thou Shalt Boogie!, is a little heavier on atmospherics than previous releases (they’ve employed a Hammond organist on this one), but is slowly becoming my favourite of theirs. Excellent tunes for long drives.

(This week’s SongoftheDay segments are being guest-curated by Paul Slater.  Paul plays guitar in Monobrow, one the best up-and-coming instrumental stoner rock outfits to hit the scene in a long while.  Check out the music of Monobrow here.)
