I’m pretty sure Peter Pan Speedrock guitarist Peter Van Elderen sold his soul at the crossroads for an unlimited amount of riffs. There is no other way one man can produce so many hook laden tunes.
Peter Pan Speedrock (PPS or PPSR in short) is a Dutch band from Eindhoven. It was founded in 1997 by guitarist Peter van Elderen. He was joined by drummer Bart Nederhand and bass player Bob Muileboom in making their first self-titled album. After this album, Muileboom was replaced by Bart Geevers, who would stay on to be a permanent member. The trio is known for their honest, no-nonsense rock n’ roll songs, and has a good reputation when it comes to live shows.
If you like Zeke, Speedealer, Nashville Pussy, Motorhead, or Roller, you will 100% get down and dirty to PPSR. It’s scary sometimes to hear vocalists Peter Van Elderen sing, as he is a sure shoe-in to replace Lemmy if he lost his voice. Yet, there does lie a big glaring hole in this furious rifftastic act.
As mentioned above, these maniacs are a Dutch band who sing in English. Now, don’t get me wrong, more power to Mr. Van Elderen for putting his best foot forward; however, the lyrics fall short. I get it, Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS rule); however, I can only take so much of “I am the man, pass me my can, I gone to get high, with that guy, whatever man I got the plan, why don’t you turn off the fan, bad things are here, lets drink beer, etc.” See what I mean? I honestly think the tunes would be better in their native tongue, which I am assuming is not English. If English is their native tongue, then all I can say is “Dude, Really?”
This LP is a strong 4 out of 5 stars in my book, worth the purchase. If you want to see or hear more bands like PPSR check out the line up over at Self Destructo Records. – DAN
